"Another world is possible"
As a science fiction writer, I spend a lot of time with my head in the stars, imagining other worlds.
Right now, I'm having a hard time imagining Earth only 20 years from now.
Will the glaciers be gone? Elephants and tigers? Will the coastal cities flood, forcing millions to become refugees, sparking scores of local wars?
Will the deserts expand, straining the resources of neighboring countries even further?
I hope not, but hope is not enough. Prayer is not enough. God is not going to swoop in and save us from this self-inflicted horror.
But we have the power to act. We know what we have to do, but action begins with accepting that climate change is a real and urgent threat.
So props to climate change activist Greta Thunberg and to Time Magazine for recognizing her importance as a voice for the new generation of activists.
"We are unstoppable," they chant. "Another world is possible."
